Save your resume as an A4 PDF

CV Tayyar does not make your PDF on a server. When you press Print / Save as PDF, your own browser's print dialog does the work, using a print stylesheet that lays the resume out on A4 paper. This page shows where the PDF option is in common browsers and which settings to check.

On a computer, in Chrome

In the builder, press Print / Save as PDF. Google's Chrome Help gives the keyboard shortcut for the print window, Ctrl + P on Windows or Linux and ⌘ + P on a Mac, and says to select the destination and change your print settings in the window that appears. Our suggestion for a PDF: choose a destination that saves a PDF file rather than a printer (look for "PDF" in its name), check the settings below, then save and choose a folder.

On an Android phone, in Chrome

Google's Chrome Help gives these steps: open the page, tap More, then Share, then Print. At the top, choose Save as PDF, then save. Source: Google Chrome Help, Print from Chrome on Android, checked 26 October 2026.

The builder's Print / Save as PDF button asks your browser to open its print dialog directly. If nothing happens on your phone, use the menu steps above while the builder page is open.

On a Mac

Apple's Mac User Guide describes saving from any print dialog: choose File > Print, then click the PDF button, or open the PDF pop-up menu and choose Save as PDF. Source: Apple Mac User Guide, checked 26 October 2026.

Other browsers and devices

Other browsers have their own print dialogs. Look for a destination or printer with "PDF" in its name. We have not documented every browser and device here, so if the steps differ, check your browser's or device's own help pages.

Settings to check before you save

  • Paper size: A4. In the CSS standard that browsers follow, the A4 keyword means ISO A4 paper, 210 mm wide and 297 mm high. Source: W3C, CSS Paged Media Module, checked 26 October 2026. CV Tayyar's print stylesheet asks for A4, but a paper-size setting in the dialog can override it, so check it says A4.
  • Margins: default. The stylesheet sets margins of 14 mm at the top and bottom and 15 mm at the sides. Choosing "none" or "minimum" can push text to the edge of the page.
  • Scale: 100% or default. A smaller scale makes the text harder to read.
  • Headers and footers: off. If the preview shows a date, a page title or a web address at the edges of the page, find the option for headers and footers and turn it off.
  • Background graphics: not needed. The templates do not use background colours.

Check the saved file

  • Open the PDF and count the pages. They should match the page marks in the builder's preview, give or take a few lines.
  • Try selecting a sentence. If you can, the PDF contains real text, not a picture of text.
  • Click a link to check it opens.
  • While printing, the builder sets the page title to your name followed by "Resume", which your browser may suggest as the file name. A clear name such as Arjun-Namoona-Resume.pdf helps the person who downloads it.

Fixing common layout problems

  • A few lines spill onto a new page. Switch to the Compact template, shorten your oldest role, or trim the summary.
  • An entry is split across two pages. The print stylesheet asks the browser to keep each entry together when it fits on one page. A very long entry may still split; shorten it or move a point to a later entry.
  • The text looks tiny. Set the scale back to 100% or default.
  • Colours print as grey. On a black-and-white printer, choose the Black colour so headings stay crisp.
